Getting to know Ceylon tea

A factory visit could add context to the fields you see from the road. Depending on the venue, you may be able to learn about the steps between freshly picked leaves and finished tea, then compare the flavours in a tasting. Estates and factories are working places, so access is not the same everywhere. If you have a particular interest in production or tasting, mention it when we discuss possible visits.

A different pace in the highlands

Nuwara Eliya offers an opportunity to alternate sightseeing with quieter time. You could walk near Gregory Lake, look at the town’s older buildings or simply leave an afternoon free after travelling through the hills. Bring a warmer layer for the cooler climate. A plan that leaves some flexibility is useful here: the appeal of a lake walk or an outing for views will depend partly on the weather that day.

Choosing between hill-country stops

Nuwara Eliya and Ella both offer tea-country scenery, but they need not fill the same role in your trip. You could give Nuwara Eliya time for tea and the town, then consider Ella for walks and the Nine Arch Bridge. If your schedule is short, choosing fewer stops can leave more time outside the car. We can discuss which experiences matter most before helping you shape that part of the route.

Including a visit in your trip

You could spend time around the lake or consider a tea factory visit to see how Ceylon tea is made. Factory visits and tastings would depend on the venue's opening times and availability.
