Allowing time for the coast

Mirissa could be a place to leave part of the itinerary open after travelling inland. A beach walk, a meal overlooking the water and time without another transfer can be enough to shape a day. If you hope to swim or take part in a water activity, ask about conditions locally rather than assuming that the sea is suitable. You can also enjoy a coastal stay without booking a boat trip.

Deciding whether whale watching suits you

Whale watching involves heading out to sea and waiting for wild animals, rather than following a fixed sightseeing circuit. Consider your comfort on boats and whether everyone in your group wants that kind of outing. Before choosing a trip, ask about its likely duration, safety equipment, cancellation terms and approach to keeping distance from wildlife. A responsible encounter should allow the animals space and should not depend on chasing them.

Season and flexibility

November to April is the usual season quoted for Mirissa, but a month on the calendar does not guarantee a departure or a sighting. Weather and sea conditions can change the plan. If whale watching is a priority, mention it early so there is time to discuss options and possible flexibility in your stay.
